Twenty-five years ago, the Elysian Masters began their business which continues today in Los Angeles and Barcelona. It all started with Jazz proficiency, tech'ing at SSL, engineering on a ship-borne class A studio that sailed the world. Now, Elysian Masters is available for mixing and mastering along with a number of other services. They offer high quality affordable mastering from engineers that have more than ten years of mastering experience each with a history of music appreciation and a deep understanding of many boutique genres of music. Between their two locations in Los Angeles and Barcelona, they can provide mixing and mastering services for clients from around the world. Mixing and mastering will help you get all the material you want on an album to sound cohesive together so that the final result is a balanced frequency response of the music.
You want to produce music that reaches to the listener by achieving the proper dynamics, reducing noises that are created in tracking and mixing, and prepare the album for replication of a high quality album. Using professionals with the best in technology to perform mixing and mastering to your music will help get the artists a record deal or a publishing deal. High quality is the main reason for mixing and mastering with Elysian Masters. They have the experience needed to restore classic albums or to master present independent releases. They have a history of working with both major and independent labels. They use custom electronics designed in-house and offer affordable packages for the album's main versions as well as instrumental versions. Their services can give the artist more revenue for TV licensing, movie syncs and more. Elysian Masters have performed mixing and mastering services for rap, hip hop, psychedelic, glitch, electro, techno, funk, soul, R n B, classical and many other genres of music. Even when the mixing is performed on a budget, the mastering can be used to provide a high quality finish. Mastering is the last creative step in the record making process and the mastering engineer from Elysian Masters will review the mixed material. The engineer will then make the overall dynamic and EQ adjustments, including M/S processing if needed, compression, de-essing, and limiting. Mixing and mastering go hand in hand for creating a finished album sound.
The number one problem found in mixes submitted for mastering is the lack of headroom in the mixes...usually caused by digital limiters or clipping. This lack of headroom (very unnecessary in 24 bit files) limits what can be accomplished by the mastering process to correct any existing problems. You should also keep in mind that compression on the entire mix that may seem fairly transparent during mixing can often become much more up front at the mastering step... so be careful not to over compress the entire mix during mixdown. Vocal sibilance can also be an issue so excessive sibilance should be avoided. The best way to address sibilance in mixing is to either use a high quality de-esser in mixing (like the free Spitfish VST plugin, Waves renniasance de-esser, or the digidesign de-esser), or to reduce the volume of the "sss" or "ch" sounds with volume automation in the mix. That way, if the mix is brightened in mastering, excessive sibilance won't cause harsh or edgy frequencies in the final product. If you elect to have Elysian Masters mix your album, they will consult with you on your needs to identify the most important needs of your project. A full compliment of vintage analog outboard compression, eq, and fx are available... including Urei 1176s, LA-3As, LA-2A, 175b, Gates Sta-level, Pultec EQP-1As, Neve 1099, DBX 160VUs, Compex compressors, EMI compressors, Anamod ATS-1 tape emulation, Sony Dre-S777 reverb, Bricasti and Lexicon reverbs, etc.
They also offer recording to tape via an Ampex ATR-102 mastering deck, and analog summing via a Shadow Hills Equinox. Alternatively, for smaller budgets, projects can be mixed entirely ITB (In the Box) with a host of plug-in sound processing including the Waves Mercury bundle, Soundtoys bundle, Eventide TDM bundle, Sonnox and URS plugins, etc. Some of their credits for mixing include artists like Silversun Pickups, Guilty Simpson, Madlib, J-Dilla, Mickey Avalon, Blu, These New Puritans, Matthew Dear, and others.
